Limonero Films focuses on premium documentaries and long-running factual series

Following its participation at the inaugural edition of Content Europe in Lisbon, Ester Català, Sales and Acquisitions Executive at Limonero Films, shared insights into the company’s current strategy, recent sales successes and upcoming highlights from its catalogue.

As the next market season approaches, Limonero Films is further broadening its global footprint through high-end factual programming, with a clear focus on premium documentaries and long-running series“The company remains particularly active in genres such as wildlife, history, science and current affairs, while also developing more ambitious, large-scale productions with strong international appeal”, explains Ester Català, Sales and Acquisitions Executive at the company.

Among the distributor’s recent success stories is “The Savannah: Wild Happiness” (4×52’), a co-production between Azor Producciones and Into the Wild Productions released in early 2026. The series has already secured deals with ARTE, RTVE, PlattelandsTv, RSI, RTP and RTS Serbia, with additional agreements currently being finalised across Africa, India and Poland, among other territories. Another strong performer is “Life of a Predator” (3×55’), also from Into the Wild Productions, which continues to generate solid sales following its launch.

Other standout titles in the current catalogue include “Global Warning” (3×50’ and 1x 74’), produced by Earth Horizon Productions, “Blue Carbon” (1×59’ and 1×85’) from Make Waves Media, and “Wild Coast Warriors” (1×72’, 1×55’ and 1×30’), produced by Contemporary Film Productions.

Looking ahead, the company is preparing the international rollout of “Bock Saga” (4×60’), a true crime documentary series produced by Parad Media for Nordic broadcasters, exploring the mysterious story of Ior Bock, a Finnish mystic who claimed the origins of humanity could be traced to a hidden underground temple beneath Finland. Blending decades-old conspiracies with present-day treasure hunts and investigations, the project is currently entering its pre-launch sales phase ahead of its July premiere.

Limonero Films’ latest move into technological innovation is led by “The Missing Head” (1×85’ and 1×52’), a production by Cromo Studio that uses artificial intelligence to reconstruct the robotic avatar of writer Philip K. Dick, which disappeared two decades ago. The slate also includes “Kofun: The Mystery of Japan’s Ancient Tombs” (1×55’), a documentary special uncovering the secrets of Japan’s monumental ancient tombs, whose scale has often been compared to the pyramids of Egypt.

Alongside its expanding catalogue, Limonero Films continues to build on its relationships with major broadcasters and platforms. Recent agreements include partnerships with Warner Bros. Discovery, National Geographic, Planète+, SABC, SBS, Proximus and Suspilne, among others. This year also marks Limonero Films’ 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of consolidation and expansion in the international documentary and factual distribution space.

Following a successful experience at Content Europe, where the team strengthened existing relationships and opened new conversations with buyers and producers, the company is set to maintain an active presence across the industry’s key markets, including DocsBarcelona, Hot Docs, NEM Dubrovnik, Sunny Side of the Doc, Sheffield DocFest and, of course, MIPCOM.
