Limonero Films dives into global distribution of South African Marine Doc

News Article

The boutique distributor has acquired the global rights to the gripping marine documentary, alongside the feature title “Lions, Bones & Bullets,” and will debut them at upcoming European markets.

Limonero Films has officially secured the international distribution rights for “Shark Town,” a compelling documentary produced by the South African production company Rockpool Media. The boutique distributor is set to introduce the 52-minute film to international buyers at upcoming industry events, including NEM Dubrovnik, Sheffield DocFest, and Sunny Side of the Doc.

The documentary centers on Gansbaai, a small South African fishing community famously dubbed Shark Town due to its historically dense population of Great White Sharks. The narrative explores the sudden and mysterious disappearance of these apex predators, the subsequent economic and ecological crisis faced by the town, and its ultimate journey toward revival. The project highlights how the global fascination with sharks birthed a local cage-diving industry that funds pioneering scientific research and marine conservation.

Limonero Films’ founder and CEO, Pamela Martínez Martínez, said: “I am delighted with this new partnership with Rockpool Media. The production value of this title is extremely high and there is some truly breathtaking footage. The film is rigorously researched, and the experts involved bring a lot of nuance to the story. I can’t wait to start showing it to buyers.”

Anton Leach, Director of “Shark Town” at Rockpool Media, said“I grew up with the same cinematic fear of sharks many people have — making ‘Shark Town’ completely changed my perspective. Spending time with the scientists, divers and local community revealed just how connected these animals are to the town’s identity and story. I came to appreciate the profound ecological and cultural importance of sharks in ways I never expected. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Limonero Films to bring this story to audiences around the world.”
