01 Dec Limonero Picks Up “Tigre Gente” for International Distribution
UK boutique distributor Limonero Films has picked up international rights to the investigative environmental doc Tigre Gente, the feature debut of National Geographic explorer and DOC NYC 40 Under 40 honoree Elizabeth Unger.
The film, which premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival, follows Marcos Unzquiano (pictured), warden of Bolivia’s Madidi National Park, as he combats the illicit trade in jaguar teeth that threatens to eradicate the entire species. Parallel to Unzquiano’s attempt to infiltrate the criminal network, Hong Kong journalist Laurel Chor tackles the opposite end of the pipeline, tracing the selling of jaguar teeth in China and Myanmar.
Tigre Gente is a production of Unger’s Wanderlust Films and Violet Films, the prodco behind the Oscar-winning The White Helmets. Violet founder Joanna Natasegara coproduces with Unger, and the executive producers are Kate Brooks, Violet Du Feng, Laurel Chor, Marion Javadi, Kathryn Everett and Bryn Mooser for XTR Studios, and Minah and Greg Worley for WorleyWorks.
“Tigre Gente is a gripping story with unique access that showcases the convoluted ways in which pervasive animal poaching connects two seemingly opposite continents,” Limonero founder and managing director Pamela Martínez Martinez said.
