London and Barcelona-based indie distributor Limonero Films has picked up worldwide rights to the new environmental doc Wild Coast Warriors, which it will begin shopping to buyers at the MIPDOC market running this weekend (April 6 and 7) ahead of MIPTV 2024.
Produced by Contemporary Film Productions and co-directed by Nick Chevallier and Leigh Wood, the 90-minute feature doc chronicles the David-and-Goliath tale of the Ama-Mpondo Indigenous communities of South Africa’s Wild Coast, who waged a successful legal battle against Shell to halt oil and gas exploration in the region, and won ongoing protection for both their ocean and their traditional culture.
The production is supported by Greenpeace Africa, Natural Justice and Oxfam Novib.
